It's the time of year where noone has time to do anything. Never-the-less, I'm hosting a LAN party on December 10th. While I'm certain that a few of you will be able to make it, I don't plan on running dedicated servers for FPS's unless there's at least 8 of us here. We can play more games like Dungeon Defenders, League of Legends, Company of Heroes, Star Craft 2 and FPS's online. Either way I'm sure we'll have a good time, but I'd rather pack the house.

Minecraft Server Is Back Up

With the latest 1.8 update, we started over from scratch again. If you find the server is not running, send me a message. I'll look into it. It's running on my HTPC and sometimes someone accidentally shuts it off. If You've built a freestanding building in the past on one of the old maps and would like to import it into the new one, I can send you the old map files and you can use a program called MCEdit to copy it to a template file. Then you'd send that file to me and I'll arrange to drop it in the location of your choosing. We now have enough people signed up that requires me to start setting up in the adjoining room. This means I now have space for 3 more. Adding the one table isn't too hard, but adding the 2nd requires that I move the furniture a lot. If you're on the fence about whether or not you're coming, it would be great if you mentioned it in the shoutbox. At least that way, I can start planning and be prepared. Then if you can't come, we'll worry about that then.

Below, I posted the results from registration where you were asked what games you wanted to play. It looks like Monday Night Combat, Bad Company 2, Counter Strike, and Track Nations are in. And of course the mandatory TF2 and CoD4. I was hoping to fill up game of League of Legends, no internet people. Even if you're no good, we'll try to even the teams so it will be fun. It's free, so make sure it's installed and up-to-date. I'll also Have Crysis Wars and Flatout 2 shared, if you don't have it already. They're just drag and drop, so it's easy to get them up and running. I also noticed a couple mentions of Company of Heroes. We really must get that in this time. A big 2v2 or 3v3 would be fun. I did notice that Demigod has fallen off the list. I guess as long as LoL is in, it's no big deal. Kinda the same, for the most part.

I'd like to bring this up to see if you all are thinking along the same lines. I've noticed at some LANs that we only play a game for a round or two before everyone drops out and is looking to play something else. I'd like to buck this trend. We've got all day, let play the !@#$ out a game before we move on. If we miss playing something because of it, I won't be disappointed.

There's a new attendee and I thought I'd mention it to remind the rest of you. Pop will be in the refrigerator. Don't be afraid to help yourself. While I'm sure my kids will drink it, I bought it for you guys, so drink up. Also, you're welcome to put anything you brought with you in the fridge too. And just to confuse everyone, the bathroom is equipped with a motion sensor. The light automatically comes on when you walk in. It's only set for 1 minute though. If you're in there too long and don't move, you'll be greeted to the darkness. Wave hi to it to get it to come back on.I

I'm sure everyone has their favorite Counter Strike maps. Here's your chance to make sure we play your favorites. I will order them on the server by the number of votes they get. I was thinking about doing the same thing with TF2, but the map list is too long to make a poll. Instead, post map titles in the shoutbox and I'll move them to the top of the mapcycle list. Please don't mention 2fort. I'm sick of that map. You're also welcome to make recommendations for CoD4. I need the map name and the game type for it.

I need your input. If I'm going to do one, I'd like a decent turnout. If there's a date that is a definite no, post it in the Shoutbox so I can put more weight against doing it that day. Memorial Day weekend was not included because most people want to spend that time with the family. Plus I'm pretty sure that I'll have to be on-call then too. The games list is outdated. I'll get to work on that real soon. I'll certainly be adding Monday Night Combat to it. If you come back and this mention is gone, I've updated it.

Downfall of the server

Well, it seems that the Minecraft server software isn't quite ready for primetime. If it shuts down unexpectedly, the map files get messed up. Since there isn't an auto backup, and I forget to do it manually, we loose a lot of work. For a second time now, the files have been corrupted with too much work lost. I really wanted a permanent place, but it looks like it's not going to happen. I'm sorry for that. I'm going to try to keep it running, but don't get mad if you come back one day and it's all gone. It's not my fault.

I have a minecraft server set up here at the house. Please don't grief it. We've spent a lot of time building our the world. If you're new to Minecraft, please play single-player and read up on how the game works before you jump in. After that, Feel free to build what you want on vacant sections. It's ok to borrow a couple things to get yourself started, but don't load up. If you die in lava or a long ways away from the spawn point, you'll lose your inventory and everything we've mined/crafted in the process. Also, We're interconnecting our building via underground tunnels.

LAN time once again

Hey all. The next LAN is set for May 22nd. I've been contemplating on how to make our parties even better. When I first started hosting these, I was happy to just get people to show up. We choose the games we played, during the day, by whoever spoke up and said what they wanted. I like this if there's only a few of us, but when the place is packed, it doesn't always work very well. I really don't like it when everyone looks around asking what we're playing next and nobody is sure. This time, I'm going to try setting a schedule. I'm not sure how strictly we'll adhere to it, but I'd like to give it a shot. What's on it now is only what I threw together in a few minutes. I don't want to be a dictator about it, so I'd like everyone's input.

First off, if you're going to suggest a game that's not on the games list, don't do it the day before. There's nothing worse than everyone spending an hour to install a game that we play for only an hour. We need some time to "aquire" it and get it installed beforehand. I'm pretty sure you all are TF2 fans, so I'm going to have 2 large blocks of time for it. One in the morning and one in the evening. I don't know about you, but that game never gets old at a LAN.

Also, some of the games are 8 player max. This can be a problem when there's more than that here. This is where it's important for you to fill out the games you want to play, on the registration form. Hopfully it works out where I can get it synced up with 2 different games going at the same time. Like 1 group playing flatout 2 while the other plays League of Legends or Demigod. You know, that kind of thing. I'll keep an eye out for your suggestions in the shout box and your registration.

After you sign up, check back every once in a while to see what games it looks like we're going to be playing. That way you won't be the one twiddling their thumbs while installing a game, just to finish in time to play the last round.

But they've never failed to provide stable power, a fast network, and servers running all the games we want to play. You just can go wrong attending one of their parties. The guys of the Arrested Development Clan are hosting a party in Columbia City, IN. It's all going down on Dec. 5th from 10am to midnight in the Whitley County 4-H Community Building. They're offering game voting this time around so that everyone can see what games others want to play. The most popular games will be nominated for a tournament at the event. They will offer high speed internet, so game updates and Steam can play nicely all on a Gigabit backbone switch. You are not required to pay once you register, in fact, you are encouraged to find a friend to bring so that you may share your unique Friend Code and both receive a $5 discount on admission. Solo admission will be $15, $10 if you bring a friend.

There you have it. We're going to skip having it here and drag our PCs there. You're welcome to join us. I'd like as many Demigod players to beat up on as I can.

Thanks to you all that came. I certainly had a good time. The Teams were pretty well balanced in TF2, once daugher left and we were 3 on 3. Who'd of thunk it, that my 10 year old, would have thrown the teams off that much. Kinda makes a father want to smile. Anyways, I'm looking at the calander trying to think when to have another one. LanOC is having 2. One on Sept 26th and the other on Oct 23rd &24th. The last one they had, was definitely the best LAN I've ever been to. So, I can't miss those. I'm contemplating Aug 8th. We'll see.

Just as a reminder. I only have 1.5/mb dsl. So make sure you run steam and let it update, at home. Otherwise, you might have to wait a while. Especially if several people have to do it.

Alrighty, one more week to go. I've been going over the "games list". And, I've trimmed it a little. I've removed most of the stuff that we never play. But, I haven't taken BF2 off there yet. I'm hoping that there's a chance that we could play it again. Even though it's a little old. I still really enjoy it. I'd really like to get your input on it. Is anyone interested in playing it anymore?

New to the list, is Demigod. We have to get in at least one round of it. If you played an MMO, you'll get the hang of it pretty quick and you'll be wanting more.

jjsky500 and I usually play at least one round of CoH. There's been a recent update to it. v2.600 - If you'd like to play that with us, make sure you show up with it installed and ready to go.

If you have a gamepad, don't forget to bring it. We can't forget to several Tourneys of Flatout 2's Demoliton Derby. Slamming into everyone never gets old.

Lastly, My camera died. If anyone wants to take pics to add to the website, that would be great. That's all I can think of now. See you later.

The wait is over. I've finally gotten around to setting the date, for our next LAN. Get your planner out and put a big red circle around June 20th. Tell your wife, girlfriend, mom, or boss to try to survive without you, that day. Because you've got better things to do. The world needs saved from the evil blu team, a horde of zombies, and terrorists. It's gonna take at least 12 hours to do so. I'm pushing back the date of the next lan party, until sometime in June. I'm waiting for your suggestions for a particular date, on that. Everyone will be out of school and hopefully we can get the whole gang together. Until then, we're all attending the IndySmash, on March 21st. Nuno always puts on a great LAN party. After that, we might be attending LanOC on April 17th, in Ohio City, OH. It looks like it's going to be another great year for lan gaming.

Left 4 Dead

I've finally got the server setup and working, to play Left 4 Dead. That game really hits it hard. There's a lot for it to keep track of, after all. It has a relatively slow cpu. But, I think it will be ok. It worked fine with CoD4 and TF2. Besides, I can't complain too much if it's not the fastest. I'm getting to use it for free. It's here for off-site backup, from work. Less than a day to go. If you or your friend are planning on coming, please get signed up. I always try to get set up early. That way, I'm not running around trying to do it all at the last minute. It's better to have extra room, than to realize that morning, that I need to hunt down another table and some more chairs. Don't forget that it's ok to hack your CoD4 account to give you all the weapons. If you click on the link to older posts, below, there will be instructions. Also, in the games list there are links to some mods. They're free. So why not at least have the jailbreak mod installed. With any luck, we'll actually get to play it this time. v1.4.1 has a lot of improvements that should make it a lot more fun to play.

Steam Guest Pass

Hi all. The date for the next party is set. I've extended it out a little further than 2 months this time. I'm thinking that the one after this one will be the week before Thanksgiving. Which will make it about 2 months between those. Also, I've updated the flyer, in case you wanted it. My hosting will only allow files up to 512kb. And I can't seem to get the new one shrunk down that small. Just let me know and I'll send it to you. In case you didn't know, we've lost Linkypwns to college. So, it might be some time before we see him again. Any of his friends that he's brought in the past, you're still welcome to come. There's always room for you guys.

Jailbreak

I just noticed that there is a new version of the Jailbreak mod for Half-Life 2. I have the server set up to play it. And after a little running around in it, it's a lot better than the old version that we tried at one of the previous parties. There's several new maps, weapons, and additions that improve gameplay. I really like the on-screen triangle that points you to where the you need to go, to get your teammates out of jail. It's really helpful when you don't know the map. There's also a medic gun and perks, ala CoD4. Let's give this one another try. I'll have the files shared. But, if you want to install it beforehand, that would be better. You can get it at jailbreaksource.com. Make sure you install version 0.4 first. Then install the 0.4.1 patch after that.

Level 55

I don't play CoD4 much. So, I'm always stuck using a crappy gun when we play. I looked around and here are the instructions on how to hack your account. I put this here to be fair to everyone coming. Go ahead and use it if you want. It gives you all the weapons and perks. Make sure you follow this to the letter. It won't work otherwise.

1. Download this and extract the mpdata file.
2. Go to Start -> Run-> Type regedit -> Hit Enter.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Activision -> Call of Duty 4
4. Double-click codkey
5. Save the key in notepad
6. Replace the key with: DL2J8PY44Q22GE4888D2
7. Press OK and close regedit.
8. Navigate to your Call of Duty 4 profile folder (typically “C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\your_user_name”)
9. Back-up and then remove all the files in your user name folder.
10. Place the mpdata file you downloaded in your user name folder
11. Open the COD4 MP game and check your rank. You should now be level 55 with all challenges, guns, and every camouflage unlocked!
12. Finally, in the game go to Options -> Multiplayer Options -> Key Code and type your original cd key you have saved in notepad.

Another Great Party

Thanks to everyone, who actually played with us, for coming. This was our biggest party to-date. And it was a good time. Our next party should be in May. Mods

I found a couple of mods that you all might be interested in playing. The first is a new one that just came out for Half-Life 2. It's called D.I.P.R.I.P.. If you've ever played Twisted Metal, it's a lot like that. I've been playing it online the last few days. It's pretty fun. The other mod is for UT2004. It's called Deathball. It's been out for quite a while. I'd just forgotten about it. It's a lot of fun at LANs. It takes teamwork to win. If you've never heard of it, it's pretty much like soccer. Except you shoot and pass the ball with a modified impact hammer. If you guys are interested in playing either of these, I've got them ready to go on the server.

Medal of Honor

A couple of parties back, we tried to play the Jailbreak mod for Half-Life2. Great concept. But the maps sucked. I was flipping through my stack of games, this week, and came across Medal of Honor. The add-on pack, Breakthrough, has this same gameplay. When you die, you spawn in the enemies jail. To get out of jail, a teammate on the outside, has to hit a button to open the door. You win when all of the enemy is in jail. If you have this game, make sure it's installed. We're going to give a try. If you don't, I'll hook you up, when you get here. It doesn't take that long to install.

CoD4

To everyone who was at the last party: My computers no longer have the corrupted version of CoD4. If you changed any of your files to match ours, to be able to play with us. You need to reinstall it. I'd hate to have the same problem again, in reverse. I've also gotten ahold of the command lines for the server. So, we will be able to play something more than deathmatch. It gets a little boring without an objective, other than kill the other team.

With the input I got from everyone, I've picked a date for the next Muncie Gamers LAN Party. You should have plenty of time before January 12th, to inform the "Scheduling Committee" of where you're going to be that day. It took me a little longer to decide, this time. The motherboard on my computer was going bad. So, I have been using the server for my Internet activities as of late. The "Finance committee" finally gave the OK to order the new parts that I wanted. Now that I know that I'll be back up and running soon. I figured I'd proceed with updating the site.

We had couple of new people show up this time. I hope everyone had a good time. I certainly did. As predicted, Team Fortress 2 took the majority of the play-time. My daughter got ahold of it and shot some video, of one of our last rounds, of TF2. I can't believe the 2 of us, blu, took that point with 2 seconds left on the clock. Against a 3 person red team, no less. Which, as you will see, had turrets and snippers.
